A draft decree regulating the rate of taxes on land and property

Local authorities of the Republic of Belarus in 2010 can get right to regulate the rate of taxes on land and property.

The draft decree, which regulates these matters of taxation, has been prepared. In accordance with the special part of the Tax Code of the Republic of Belarus, which came into force on 1 January 2010, property tax has not undergone significant changes. No increase in rates on it are not provided.

But before the local authorities in accordance with the budget law have the right to raise or lower the tax rate on real estate. The special part of the Tax Code does not regulate the application rate of the tax. Ordinance on certain tax matters will authorize the local Councils of Deputies to increase or decrease, but not more than two times, taxes on land and property for certain categories of taxpayers. Then they can make a recalculation of the tax, which would be paid on liabilities from 1 January 2010.
